Has Your Button Popped Out? Renualt Scenic

Recommended Posts

Here's a quick fix if like me your tailgate button has popped out on your Scenic 1999-2003, a very common problem I've since discovered!

repair cost 10p and half an hours work

With any luck yours popped out in front of you and you still have it, otherwise they are fairly cheap off ebay.

All that holds this little bugger in is an O ring. Pop down your local DIY store, taking said button and if they are anything like mine you can search through a box of O rings for the right one, just has to be a snug fit and be slightly broader than the peg it fits on.

Once the O ring is sourced tools required are T20 torx bit, and a flat bladed screwdriver, 4 screws (T20 torx) hold on the main body of the trim and depending on the model possibly another two by the rear wiper cover, then the trim pops off.

This is where manual dexterity and a third hand come in handy (oops is that a pun?), after removing the wiring from the lock , I managed with a second person pushing in the button, to slip the O ring over the peg using one finger and the flat bladed screwdriver, took a couple of goes but by doing this negated having to remove the whole lock from the tailgate, then after checking it all held together it's just a case of refitting the trim and trying not to snap any catches, those catches are the hardest part of the job, those little buggers  !!

here's a usefull link if you can't get an O ring, the guy gives a step by step instruction and sells a small metal clip which does the job (I tried an e clip but it was just a bit to big) as I said I managed to do the job without removing the lock and saved myself a bit of hassle but this gives instructions on how to remove said lock, good luck and no swearing :whistling:
